Bike Tours in Nazaré — What to Know Before You Ride
Nazaré sits in the middle of one of Portugal's richest cycling regions. Within a single day's ride you can reach Praia do Norte — the world's most famous big-wave beach — the clifftop village of Sítio, the UNESCO-listed Alcobaça monastery, Atlantic pine forests, dinosaur tracks at São Martinho do Porto, and the Óbidos lagoon. Inland, the Serras de Aire e Candeeiros open up into limestone climbs, olive groves and quiet roads that see almost no traffic. Our guides have ridden every one of these routes hundreds of times in every season — so you spend the day enjoying Portugal, not navigating it.
IronDeer has been running guided bike tours from Nazaré since 2022. Tours are small-group (usually 4–8 riders), led by a qualified local guide, and run on premium Orbea bikes — most riders pick the Rise H15 e-MTB so climbs disappear and you can keep up with the group regardless of fitness. Every tour includes the bike, helmet, water, route planning and basic on-tour insurance; longer rides add a café or snack stop and dedicated tours include monastery entries, wine tastings, spa access or tandem paragliding flights. Half-day, full-day and multi-day formats are all available, and most tours can be made private for couples, families or small groups travelling together.
Not sure which tour to pick? Short coastal rides like the 2-hour Welcome to Nazaré and the Praia do Norte Big Waves tour are ideal first rides and family days. Cultural day tours — Alcobaça Monastery, the Wine & Spa loop, the Coast to Sanctuary pilgrimage to Fátima — pair cycling with food, history and slower stops. Experienced riders should look at the Alcobaça River Valley E-MTB tour, the 80 km Sea to Summit climb to Serro Ventoso, or the 130 km IronDeer Gravel Challenge. For something different, we also run a stargazing night ride through the Salgado hills, a bird-watching tour around the Óbidos lagoon, a bike-and-paraglide combo, and corporate team-building days.
